Sets of 4 columns in the living room define space - as sitting room, or as an extension of the living room.
Living room as centre; circulation through the house undertakes the phases from public to private.
Garden as a centre; allows access to other parts of the house which are defined as perimeters.
Each column and post are different; these columns represent the surrounding Finnish forest. They are also placed on irregular grid, reason been that "it does not represent the way of living" as well as to "avoid articulated
rhythm" according to
Alvar Aalto.
